Apple Acquired 29 Companies Since Beginning of Fiscal 2014, Including Five Since April

during today's third quarter earnings call, apple ceo tim cook revealed apple has purchased total of 29 companies on course of last 9 months, including 5 new companies after end of march quarter. of 29 companies purchased, known many remain unknown.

2 of apple's newest acquisitions have been revealed, including luxvue technology in may spotsetter in june, leaving 3 unknown acquisitions. may acquisition of beats not counted in 29 company total because deal, apple's expensive purchase date, doesn't close until quarter. after beats deal closes, total number of acquisitions rise 30.

earlier in 2014, apple acquired snappylabs, company produced burst-mode photo app, , burstly, company behind testflight ios beta testing platform.

many of other acquisitions made in 2013, , purchases focused heavily on mapping. 2013 acquisitions included mapping companies broadmap, embark, hopstop, locationary, , wifislam, along other notable additions 3d company primesense , novauris, speech recognition company.

technology apple's acquisitions undoubtedly make way future products , updates. example, significant mapping updates expected sometime after launch of ios 8, adding transit directions , improved indoor mapping techniques.

during company's april earnings call, tim cook said apple "on prowl" additional companies acquire , in today's call, cook said apple looking @ acquisition space , doesn't let "money burn hole in our pocket."
