Hard drive fried

need help. advice appreciated. last november had strong power surge, long story short fried imac hard drive. had on 13,000 photos on computer. told still retrieve pictures cost anywhere $500-$5,000 them placed on external hard drive. question how pictures on external hard drive without paying , how big should drive be? in advance help. :) p.s. computer turns on never makes main screen before turning off. :(
 

you need remove drive imac , put inside external usb enclosure see if can read mac. if can, easy dragging photos or iphoto library external disk disk.

if cannot read drive in enclosure mac, may want try disk recovery utility disk warrior. failing that, looking @ paying data recovery company try , recover data , can costly.
