Can I upgrade a MacBook to latest OS X?

hello,

i've inherited old macbook, circa 2006. has 1.83 ghz intel core 2 duo 2 gb of ram. it's running 10.4.11. can't seem update software on machine longer - flash player, browser, etc. can't use simple things streaming videos.

i'm tempted buy snow leopard (to app store), , upgrade latest os.

don't plan use machine heavy - no gaming, no multimedia, video editing, etc. browsing, email , possibly using tv (bbc iplayer/netflix, etc) in study.

question is, hamstrung specs? , should not bother?

thank you.

ps - presume specs 1 on left.

the latest os model can run os x lion, , stick snow leopard, runs faster on older macbooks
