MacBook Air For student

i'm thinking getting macbook air , passing down 2011 macbook pro family member. there couple of questions have.

1. has upgraded macbook pro 2011 macbook air 2014, seen big difference in speeds?

2. see difference in macbook air if upgraded standard 1.4ghz 1.7ghz i7? custom spec on apples website.

being student student discount on mackbook air, i'm considering waiting until apple announce school promo. reason i'm considering macbook air, because of 12 hour battery life , portability.

have experiences been of have moved macbook pro macbook air?
 

this going depend on how plan on using mba. 1.7ghz i7 has higher turbo frequency, if aren't pushing computer may not notice difference.

just yesterday reading best buy having $150 student discount on mbas. there additional $100 discount well. might want check out.
