Advice for my new purchase

i have 2010 macbook pro , looking upgrade it. laptop go machine personal fun stuff. have i7 hp laptop use work. connects 2 24" hdmi monitors , runs 6 virtual machines (never more 2 @ time).

i'd maybe combine 1 new mbp. max out financially @ 15" 16gig ram, i7, 256gig ssd.

figure need run virtual machines off external usb3 drive due size , quantity. these windows 7-8 vms.

need connect 2 hdmi monitors. i'm thinking of connecting 1 monitor via mini display port -> hdmi. getting tb -> hdmi cable.

when i'm done work, don't need mbp of can stay in office.

can see issues this? better off keep work separate , consider more portable home use , mba? keep flip flopping on , appreciate comments.
