Apps that require a newer (i series) macbook?

trying see if can convince school district need new laptop. have mid 2010 white macbook , of new teachers received new 11" macbook airs. way can school upgrade computer convince them there apps use in classroom require newer computer. there apps point out require newer hardware have?
 

it's not computer version of osx. mac take 10.9 mavericks, upgrade that, free.
