Google Voice, Hangouts and Native phone functions... Confusion!

ok... have used these independently. they're merged together.

before:
  • google hangouts allowed free wifi calls/video conferencing
  • google voice allowed call forwarding, calls on service provider

difference ability call number , use google hangouts primary way calls? still have both apps. 1 one triggered incoming call? both? phone still ring using native ringing or 3 ring? i'm confused.

also, how contacts merge between native phone, google voice (contacts) , google hangouts?

, history of call logs , text messages on three?
