How to transfer iPhone data to a freshly reformatted MacBook without losing data?

my iphone 5 bloated , need reformat it. reformatted macbook last night fresh installation no iphone attached it. how transfer content want on iphone (20 apps instead of 50 on phone) onto macbook without losing of data? remember horror stories of how blank itunes data on fresh mac overwrite iphone blank data , lose during sync.
