8gb RAM max?

hello,

have imac 9,1 (early 2009) , macbook 7,1 (2010 - late 2010?). have original 2gb ram wish upgrade.

appears both these macs take same ram chips , according research both have possible maximum of 8gb ram.

question whether 8gb maximum correct or whether can go beyond this? if there other considerations or negatives going beyond stated maximum.

looking @ maxing out ram , buying following:
8.0gb (2 x 4.0gb) owc pc8500 ddr3 1066mhz so-dimm 204 pin ram

 

that correct memory imac , 8gb maximum it.
