Is there any help for a 1st Gen iPad?

i'm pretty sure bought in summer or 2010.

now, can surf web without freezing , crashing. reading magazine or pdfs -- same thing. it's driving me nuts.

there this? if delete unused apps? (the capacity 58 gb , i've got 16.2 gb available.) running ios version 5.1.1 (which think recent download this.)

or throw out window , buy new one? what's estimated usable life of current ipads?
 

if can without freezing/crashing why driving nuts?
