Genius Grant for Proof of Prime Number Theorem

last year yitang zhang, little-known mathematics lecturer, solved major unsolved prime number problem, called "bounded gaps" conjecture. he's been given genius grant macarthur foundation work. there's article here, , don't have math geek understand it.

i'm glad he's been recognized , rewarded amazing advancement in prime number theory. proved no matter how far go in enumerating prime numbers, never run out of pairs of prime numbers differ predetermined constant n. didn't identify number n, showed such number exists , less 70 000 000. results tell gaps between prime numbers don't become consistently more sparse , instead there "small" gaps between prime numbers.

find thrilling theorem prime numbers believed true, not proven hundreds of years, proved. other unproven prime number theorems, such twin primes conjecture, might yet proved too.

surprised learn these articles zhang's talent wasn't recognized, after got ph.d., , had trouble finding work. @ 1 point ended working in subway fast-food restaurant! how many math geniuses have made submarine sandwich?

was nominated fields medal?
