OS install question when upgrading HD in late 2008 MBP

i have late 2008 macbook pro running mavericks use spare computer. thinking upgrading ssd. if put new drive in, can install mavericks directly onto drive (with bootable usb flash drive) or have install snow leopard again , upgrade through app store? lost sl disks, looking alternative.
 

yes of course! can install version same or later 1 came computer
