AT&T, Apple Begin Paying $40 to U.S. iPad 3G Purchasers After Unlimited Data Lawsuit

at&t , apple have begun sending out payments consumers in united states purchased original ipad 3g, following culmination of long-running class action lawsuit on unlimited data.

settled in september of 2013, lawsuit covered $29.99 no-contract unlimited data plan apple , at&t offered original ipad -- deal steve jobs advertised on stage when tablet revealed in january of 2010.

in june of 2010, at&t stopped offering plan , replaced 2gb $25/month plan. at&t did grandfather in users had unlimited plan prior june 2010, company began throttling unlimited users in october of 2011.

class action lawsuit accused apple , at&t of using bait-and-switch tactics, selling ipads advertised unlimited data without providing unlimited data. lawsuits suggested without prospect of unlimited data plan, consumers had overpaid tablets. apple , at&t's settlement, called companies send out $40 checks affected customers, finalized in february. noted 9to5mac, checks arriving customers.

under terms of settlement, at&t required offer customers $20 discount on $50/month 5gb data plan, deal available customers not have data plan at&t due no-class action provisions in contracts.
