trying to copy/paste something to external.. says not enough space, but theres plenty

i'm trying copy + paste large folder macintosh hd 1tb lacie external hard drive, , keep getting error message can't done because there's 'not enough space'.. however, when pulling "get info" on each item, shows there still 295.31gb available space on external drive, , folder wish copy 158.18gb.. there should plenty of space..

tried emptying trash.. went disk utility, did repair disk , repair disk permissions on everything, restarted computer, , i'm still getting error message there's not enough space available.. gives?
