GPU upgrade for 3,1 has head spinning
hey everyone, i've had mac pro since new in 2008 , has been awesome me, lately it's been showing age (since left snow leopard mountain lion). taking longer, more spinny wheels. i'd able keep while yet, i've been looking things can freshen performance.
current setup 8-core 2.8, 6gb ram (4 more in mail), original xt-2600 card 256mb, , 10.8.5
on top of it, i'd upgrade mavericks. i've heard of people having problems on machine, , people…not having problems. i'd love latter.
don't game, do heavy lifting - photoshop, final cut pro, digital performer, etc…and fcp doesn't 2600. tells me every time open it.
i'm looking inexpensive (read: non mac model), reasonably powerful, card work sure, machine, , 10.9. i've been reading thread after thread, wikis, cruising ebay etc…, , it's little overwhelming, after while numbers start bouncing off you. i'm ok having download drivers, or couple workarounds, don't want deal flashing, or that's going give me chance screw up. works right out of box great, don't care boot screen much. love keep under hundred bucks, fifty make me happier. suggestions?

can't make specific claims 10.9, i'm on 10.85 same machine, , popped in $90 asus gt-640. it's not particularly amazing card, it's cheap , works. run 3 monitors day long, no issues. no drivers download. os x knows it.
