"Phantom" images in Contacts.app

i'm loving yosemite, 1 deal contacts.app has me stumped:

regularly assign images in contacts.app people whom exchange lot of email. when email has no image, add address contacts, find image on web, drag contact card, , image instantly appears in mail.app.

here's thing:

in yosemite, after adding new email address contacts.app, sometimes image of person appears inside circular image field automatically -- before i've located , added one. have no idea images coming from.

now, thing (less work me) if images showed in mail.app, don't. furthermore, when click on "edit" edit "phantom" image, image disappears — if there no image there begin with. when dismiss edit window, "phantom" image reappears. (and yes, images do match persons. so, images being pulled sort of valid source.)

i'm not sure if new feature that's not yet baked, or what… clearly, contacts.app finding these images somewhere, despite finding them, it's not pushing images other apps, mail.app.

has else observed this?

that's been around while, same on 10.9, @ least image getting migrated application. don't know editing part, if have facebook or google account has access contacts that's source i've noticed. check system preferences/internet accounts
