iPhone 5c vs iPhone 5? Any significant difference?

i going getting iphone 5 or 5c bday in december. colorful , feel of 5c , leaning towards getting on 5. there significant differences between 5 , 5c? know specs pretty identical, there important difference make me choose 1 on other? or design? have case on time, figure 5's aluminum design wont make difference if has thin, plastic case on versus 5c apple case on it. people use cases, there big design difference between 5 , 5c besides color?
 

my youngest daughter, 13, has 5c couple of colored "holes" apple cases, phone has been extremely durable. running ios7, still have ios6 on 5, phone seems same mine in terms of speed few times have used it.

if can swing it, 5s phone (out of 5-series), 16yo has 1 , fast when have used it.
