Little Gear .... goes round and round

after installing yosemite ... noticed little gear/sprocket in app menu bar blinks in , out ... not spin ... , shifts positions in , out other apps in close vicinity ... annoying. tracked down third party app ... time scheduler ... app hijacks time capsule can schedule backup other mandatory hourly backups.
