MacBook Pro 2012 random repeated restarts (no kernel panic)

hopefully can insight here, i'm @ loss. macbook pro randomly reboots no crash log/kernel panic. tends go in cycles, once reboots once, "chain reboot" on grey screen repeatedly, not getting past apple logo. go without rebooting few hours, , reboots every few seconds. reboots in safe mode , during aht, although able complete 1 short aht, showing no problems. i've verified , repaired disk , permissions, no change. hesitate try software update, because nature of reboots lead me believe may happen during install. i'm running 10.8.5 , have made no recent updates or changes, working fine yesterday, isn't. rebuilt computer "destroyed" macbook on year ago, , it's been a-ok until yesterday. have tried switching battery , issue still occurs. there no error message, kernel panic notification, or crash log restart, when boots osx, there no indication wasn't shut down normally. have clue?

edit:: zapping pram 4 times did nothing, apparently 5th has done trick, because haven't had issue around 6 hours (longer have been able go without issue far). i'll update if problem persists.

wishful thinking, unfortunately. repeated restarts. if it's hardware, why intermittent?
