PowerBook SSD handbook

my perception there lack of quality, consistent information out there using ssds in legacy mac laptops. hoping of use ssds in our powerpc laptops (ibook, powerbook) concisely document our experiences in thread benefit of mr readers , internet @ large. please state following in replies!

a) enough information identify model use (e.g. powerbook g4 titanium 1ghz or powerbook g4 aluminum 12" 1.5ghz)

b) ssd used (e.g. kingspec ide 128gb or owc legacy pro ide 64gb), including associated hardware such msata ata converter

c) outcome (how drive performed, how of hassle working, drive longevity, etc.)

drive hasn't come in mail yet i'll update post when installed!

good idea.

a.) powerbook g4 12" 1.5 ghz, 1.25 gb ram (powerbook6,8)

b.) transcend psd330 32 gb pata

c.) included jumper won't fit powerbook's connector. install cd (openbsd 5.5) found anyway , install went normal, had tricks in open firmware drive boot. problem drive not master drive without jumper, typing "mac-boot" @ ofw prompt led searching disk wasn't there. don't know if of applicable os x, can dig ofw commands ran if interested.

overall, system quicker before not so. booting noticeable improvement. firefox launches faster, gimp launches faster, , archive extraction faster. battery life improved 10 minutes, hard drive temps dropped 1-2 c. it's quieter before well.

again? yes, performance wasn't main concern. wanted reliable drive , wasn't sure how longer 9 year old hdd last. didn't need lots of space, 32 gb limitation not problem.
