1 Extreme vs 2 Expresses for WiFi Extension
i in need of ethernet ports in basement. have time capsule on 2nd floor primary router, express on 1st floor , express in basement extenders.
considering replacing 2 express units single extreme unit. thought extreme has gigabit ethernet ports , negate need switch. provide me 1 extension wifi network vs current 2 extensions.
don't need airplay features of expresses. change extreme overall positive network?
i donated extreme. grew tired of limitations of airport utility , wanted ability set own vpn if wanted to. still must admit aebs 1 of best routers ever had. have dedicated access points , single 24 port gigabit switch. few exceptions, wires go switch. sure had spend time stringing wire excellent network performance , trouble-free streaming in room. downloaded , used android app (also available on jailbroken ios) called wifi analyzer. walked around house documenting dead spots. ran wires locations put in dedicated access points. use d-link dap 1522 access points. better models available today. have no dead spots , can browse internet via wifi in every room , in yard patio driveway. no dead spots.
me 1 access point went under far west end of house in basement , other went in upstairs bedroom near far east end of house. main router in center of basement. arrangement works able keep wifi signal on ladder @ roof line using wifi app monitor tv signal strength ethernet tv aim mohu sky antenna.
in short there nothing wrong using airport express access point or repeater. though did have 1 of older "large brick" models overheat , take down home network, hence move d-link. there nothing wrong using aebs "extend" network created first aebs less expensive options available. being set or tweak network settings web browser , not airport utility. having more settings if don't use them. while there nothing inherently wrong apple routers, setup third party (asus , dlink) hardware works enough , allows me more flexibility few times happen need it.
