Sync iPhone to new Mac

hi

i'm struggling find info on whether it's possible resin iphone new mac without data loss. posts point either old info or kind of 3rd party program.

figured need make backup of iphone on itunes, sync iphone erase data lock phone onto new machine - hit restore settings , data how was.

theoretically should work no? had similar issue or can confirm method work?
