AT&T and Swapping Phones on Account

i have iphone 4 swap out iphone 5. know iphone 4 uses micro sim , iphone 5 uses nano sim. can attempt cut sim myself , don't tell at&t, cost me take at&t store , ask them give me new sim card , transfer phones? charge me upgrade fee if tell them or service provide free? in addition, both phones not under contract.
