Lifespan of an iPhone ?

i new ios, got ipad air few weeks ago first tablet. smartphone has been android based, , own htc 1 s. happy it, android phones before it, don't many os upgrades, , various mandatory apps continue grow in size after each update run out of space. question no mean attempt start yet android vs ios war, noticing new ios 8 available way iphone 4s, beginning think iphones might have longer life expectancy. fair assessment?
 

i used iphone 4 (bought in 2010) until iphone 6 arrived (first day, last friday)

have decent lifespan. sure wanted upgrade 5 , did work-phone 5s (but took after few months)

home button stopped working time, apps slow overall still usable. , have ipad 2 still in use (didn't update ios8 [if can, not sure])
