Please help! Mac Air not recognising Midi

-

so has been driving me mad. long story short- midi keyboards not being recoginised mac air.

keyboards work totally fine friends mac running maveric , garage band 11.

running maverick , garage band 10.6.2 (latest version)

have tried midi monitor app , still nothing.

usb ports work else (printers hard drives etc)

midi connections correct- work on other peoples stuff!

ideas why new mac air wont see midi keyboards?

please help!

have tried opening audio/midi setup, , "adding new device"...?
