Jailbreak 7.1.2, iTunes DFU restore of 7.1.2 necessary?

i bough used iphone 5s 7.1.2. carrying 0 new content onto new device.

necessary itunes dfu restore 7.1.2 before jailbreak or can reset content & settings on iphone , go?

assume phone updated ios 7.1.2 via ota when first came out , thought read better dfu restore of 7.1.2.

thoughts?
 

apple may not signing 7.1.2 now.
