Why is saying you are a photographer met with total skepticism?

anytime talking photography or online , mention i'm pro photographer, people hound me "proof" , "credentials". , when don't provide start throwing out "just because own camera doesn't make photographer".

hell? the profession requires proof online somehow? elite? mean if said mechanic harder become people wouldn't crap.
