Change Hard Drive/Disk broken

i have amacbook pro 2009 15"
hard disk doesn't work anymore. let me explain, still can turn on mac, thing works os x recovery. tried can't format or restore hard disk. hard disk still show in recovery menu, can't anything, can't format/restore/ reason.
decided change hard disk.

happen after changed hard disk?
still able acces os x?
need install os again? because lost cds.
it's easy task? guide saw looks easy, should try self?
 

attached files:

1. have backup?

2. if so, replace hard disk in laptop, , boot recovery mode , restore system backup.

3. if not have backup, replace disk, , boot internet recovery mode.

replacing disk easy, need couple screw drivers , guides online (ifixit should have of you).
