Freshly-created Windows partition boots into black screen w/ blinking cursor

i'm on 2011 15" mbp non-functioning superdrive, means options installing windows limited usb devices. editing boot camp assistant's info.plist accommodate model of mbp, i've created usb install device windows 7 ultimate .iso, , using method outlined here i've used trial version of vmware fusion install windows on new partition in hdd-- or rather, i've gone through installation process first required restart.

word of tutorial linked above, powered down virtual machine linked new windows partition after process reached specified point, restarted efi in hopes of completing installation boot camp assistant-created usb device. i've hit wall-- windows partition boots, stops @ infamous black screen blinking white cursor, , stays way. indefinite hanging occurs regardless of whether enter partition default efi or refit.

i've been bashing head against problem of usb boot camp installation days, , feel it's 90% of way there. can clearing last hurdle, please?
