Imac 7,1 Screen failure! Pricing! Family Drama!

have fun story share first post. dad told me had imac sale office , agreed on price. $400 dollars 24 inch imac 7, 1 2.8 ghz c2d 500 gig hard drive 4 gig ram loaded software need..

after picking , taking home turn on , holy crap screen. has dark triangles coming in edges dark border. looks kind of backgammon game board brightness.


have dilemma, screen problem, before ask money dad , potentially cause family issues, hoping few of folk answer questions,

1. problem: know hard diagnose no pictures, i'll provide afternoon i've gathered issue ccfl backlight, either flex cables or inverter. has had experience issue shed light on problem might be?

2. cost: has tried have issue repaired , have idea of how cost? local stores either have $100 dollar diagnosis charge or closed week. know prices vary greatly.

3. importantly, issue worse , fail? biggest issue got photography graphic work, though 400 isn't much, can't afford 400 dollars fail within year , half. margins tight.

plan figure out cost of repair , approach him reduction in price or return. before gets asked, trust dad, was't trying scam me think unaware of issue, i'm not concerned approaching him want have numbers close right possible

i don't know kind of relationship , dad have, call him , expecting machine in working order, not 1 screen flaking out $400.

if start spending time , effort solve issue, you're still getting shafted if end working in order.
