Taco John’s Employee Forced To Wear ‘Gaytard’ Name Tag

this disgusting on many levels. if south dakota doesn't protect lgbt people workplace discrimination, i'm sure there still harassment lawsuit in works here.

16-year-old tyler brandt forced manager wear name tag said, “gaytard,” , night manager allegedly loudly referred brandt “gaytard” during shift on june 23rd. aclu, on behalf of brandt has filed charges u.s. equal employment opportunity commission.

after school ended last semester, wanted find summer job usual teenage reasons: spending money clothes, cell phone, going out friends, , maybe save little too. applied crew member position @ taco john’s in town – yankton, south dakota – in june, interviewed next day, , started working night shift day after that.

hadn’t been working @ taco john’s long before night manager saying things me other employees behind back, calling me “******” , saying things like, “tyler gay it’s not funny.”

3 weeks after i’d started working there, night manager called me office , handed me name tag he’d made. said, “wear this!” huge grin on face proud of himself. looked @ name tag , saw read “gaytard” little hearts on either side of word. mom raised me respectful , polite, , didn’t want lose job. put name tag on , said, “okay, can take off now?” laughed @ me , told me leave on.

made me wear embarrassing name tag night.

every time had customer, tried stand hidden register. didn’t make difference because manager kept calling me “gaytard” loudly in front of customers rest of shift: “hey, gaytard, customer!” , “take out trash, gaytard!” extremely humiliating.

can sign petition demanding taco john’s apologize brandt here. unfortunately, neither south dakota or united states have laws protecting lgbt people workplace discrimination.
