Digital8!

i remembered still have of old hi-8 analog video tapes somewhere when used hi-8 camcorder. since don't have camcorder anymore, considering getting digital8 camcorder capable of playing them , archiving them dv.

unfamiliar digital8, format sony came out in late 1990s, when minidv camcorders more expensive , minidv tapes more hard find. used same dv codec minidv did, recorded onto 8mm or hi-8 tapes, , able import/export via firewire. result, work mac versions of imovie , final cut pro. seen upgrade path people 8mm or hi-8 camcorders.

looking getting sony dcr-trv460, heard supports analog playback of video8 , hi-8 tapes. comments or suggestions?

old handycams great. high school tech teacher bought 2 of them, original sony vx1000 , 1 of first generation powermac g4s , copy of finalcut 1.0... 400mhz, 256mb of ram, 30gb hdd, , 16mb of video memory. days.

1 of best things dv/firewire devices how versatile were. low-end models used analog digital passthrough capture device. trv460 should work want do. did same thing family's old video8 tapes few years back.

make sure test camera tape don't care first, in case there wrong tape path. don't want important memory. consider taking whatever unit end , having entire tape path , heads cleaned make sure got optimum signal quality out of analog tapes. depending upon age , quality, signal on them going have degraded quite bit.
