Macbook Air mid-2012 battery life issues -- a possible culprit ?

hi all,

sorry x-posting apple forums, seems me mr forums more active.

i've posted , followed thread regarding diminished battery life mid-2012 mba, when mountain lion released. never fix problem, contacted apple didn't solve either.

troubles (and still am) having mba :

battery life reduced @ least 33% when upgraded mountain lion lion, following firmware update.
no change when clean installed ml.
no change when upgraded, , clean installed mavericks.
battery, after 13 months of use, had capacity reduced 70-80%, , has been stable 1 year @ 70-80% capacity. lasts approximately 3 4 hours, , has never lasted longer 5 hours since upgraded ml, few weeks after laptop purchased...

i've tried posted on forums, smc resets, etc. (maybe) interesting stuff.

stumbled today on interesting. researching issue see if people same laptop, followed same firmware upgrade path did had similar issues. long story short, forum post led me interesting, located @ /system/library/extensions/ioplatformpluginfamily.kext/contents/plugins/acpi_sm c_platformplugin.kext/contents/resources

disclaimer whatever do, not try remove / move in folder.

interesting macbook air has following identifier : macbookair5,2. however, in above-mentioned folder, there no macbookair5_2.plist, stops @ 4_2.plist , goes on mbp models. now, question have fact plist missing related battery issues ? in sense without file, kernel not know how manage power, read battery status / thermal sensors ?

love fix 2-year old issue has been plaguing laptop ever since purchased it.

cheers,

hadrien

did buy applecare? if so, can have battery replaced. apple notebook batteries designed retain @ least 80% of capacity 1000 cycles. if you're still covered applecare , haven't exceeded cycles, take apple.

there many factors impact battery life. see battery life charge section of following link details, including tips on how maximize battery life.
link below should answer most, if not all, of battery/charging questions. if haven't done so, highly recommend take time read it.
