Remove photos following iPhone upgrade?

my wife upgraded iphone 5 on ios 7 iphone 6 on ios 8.

restored backup in itunes , pleased of apps , app data restored no issue.

due space constraints, though, doesn't want old iphone photos on new iphone. she's imported them iphoto on mac , have them saved. when go itunes, connect new iphone, , go photos section, "sync photos iphoto" unchecked. how can safely remove photos iphone without affecting iphone 5 photos old phone imported iphoto on mac?

sync iphoto means can take photos iphoto , put them on idevice. leaving unchecked leaves them in iphoto , not synced phone. they're saved in iphoto fine, , there space on iphone new photos :). that's how works now, i'm not sure how things work once icloud photo library , photos app , running. wouldn't worry though.
