Switching to Verizon tonight...can I get single line plan and then port my number?

i'm on at&t's no-contract mobile share value plan myself. i'm thinking of switching verizon tonight iphone 6 pre-order.

if go verizon , choose single line plan, i'm assuming assign me new number, can port current number on verizon once receive phone , at&t service automatically cancelled?
 

i had similar thread...edit here is. yes can order verizon iphone , port number on after you've received , activated long contract yet at&t account still active.

however, did mock order through apple's site of ip5s , verizon plans offered shared plans, not single plan. think might have order through vw's site that. i'd prefer single line acct if knows different, help.
