iMovie and DVD burning

hi guys,

i've got imovie vid did school (just load of pics few short vids etc) , head wants distribute on dvd parents. couple of questions - use dvd-r compatibility? also, how load normal dvd i.e. without having put in computer , double click on file? loads video automatically. know idvd did not available.
