R9 280X not working in 5.1 10.9.4

hi

after reading, went out , bought 280x 3gb put in 2010 5.1 mac pro.

had ati 5870 1gb.

didn't flash card, didn't expect boot screen. waited patiently spun up. boot chime on internal speaker per usual.

gfx card spins , seems normal. initial boot 2 displays: dvi , mdp. fell mdp (apple 24" cinema led). , dell 24" via dvi.

regardless of combo, 2 black screens. under impression work out of box, since i'm pretty current? kind of disappointed.

card xfx dd black edition , seems nice , isn't power hungry. spinning nice , quiet.

says on board uefi bios. can it defaults incompatible bios? because should work, right?
 

you haven't addressed how powering it.

8 pin plug isn't optional on stock cards.
