Dropbox/SpiderOak and you

ok, i'm not big fan of nsa , spideroak has been suggested on dropbox. did research , 1 of big flags me condi rice on dropbox's board. seems dropbox's privacy guidelines joke.

so…i tried encrypted dmg file other day. didn't go on because dropbox wants sync when detects changes in dmg. if have dmg open can't , end redownloading entire dang thing again not want.

so, went spideroak. now, it's understanding no longer support powerpc, stuff in our little world can use previous versions.

latest version of on intel macs uses spideroak hive. auto creates folder in users folder called , dropbox drop in there syncs. it's automatic.

apparently did not used be. here's syncing intel mac @ work. can still this, doing right now. need version 4.8.4 of spideroak leopard/powerpc macs.

not have hive function, can create decent work around. ignoring hive folder on work intel mac. created spideroak folder in users folder on intel mac , powerpc mac. created sync profile setting syncs both folders. have connect devices first spideroak sees both folders. didn't , took me while work out. also, on 4.8.4 on powerpc mac need have folder saved backup first before can create sync profile.

you'll need each computer device want synced. although should able edit sync profile include new folder on new device.

spideroak has ios app. it's unnecessary sync device (i don't think can) can automatically see what's on other registered devices.

it's working me , since spideroak, unlike dropbox, knows nothing files i'm good. downside me have far less storage on spideroak dropbox , there no direct way in dropbox open synced folder.

intent leave generic stuff on dropbox.

word sugarsync , box. box great! have 50gb, there's no way can work powerpc mac. consequently, have use browser it.

sugarsync great , there still powerpc version of app works, problem cannot upload file of 300mb or more.

so, there go. if wants version 4.8.4 of spideroak, let me know. found , using it.

edit: after looking through settings on intel mac version appears can disable spideroak hive sync. i've done that, leaves me sync set on powerpc mac.

 

if download latest version of spideroak software, 5.1.7, , open .dmg, you'll find app universal binary!

i'm on intel mac @ work right now, have no way of testing , seeing if work under 10.5.8.

supposedly discontinued support powerpc in january 2013, kept code in. should work, won't provide technical support.
