PowerBooks G3 Master/Slave question

hi,
maybe can answer question. ;)
i've fitted powerbook g3 oldies wallstreet , lombard compact flash card adapters quick booting. works great fast cf cards.
i've tried 3 different dual compact flash card adapters, powerbooks can't access slave cf card, master card.

note: works 2 ancient amiga 1200 me, not powerbooks, several years "younger".

can explain, what's reason?
searched net , found somebody, declared got working os x (no earlier os), didn't tell how.
 

i think caused there being 2 devices in ide/pata bus, hard drive , optical drive. if remove optical drive, both cards appear?
