MBA 13" 12 hour battery life

ok i'm thinking getting mba 13" later year (if apple don't release retina display model) , main reason i'm going air, because of battery life. wondered if apples quoted 12 hours of battery life accurate? 12 hours out of yours?

opinion on portability of 13" mba? easy carry around in bag university? guys think?
 

ymmv regarding battery life, understand, quote typical of users get.

portability, can't of better laptop carry around in bag.
