apple has applied a patent describes method of adjusting security , other settings mobile devices based on location of device (via appleinsider). location data gathered system includes contextual information helps identify phone's position familiar or unfamiliar place.

the system described in patent titled "location-sensitive security levels , setting profiles based on detected location" uses @ least 2 pieces of data such saved wi-fi network or identifiable cellular tower determine location of device. once identified, software can change security options match environment, enabling touch id , disabling simple passcode entry when user away home, example.
besides security settings, system may adjust user interface, automatically modifying home screen apps based on location. example, method display mail , other productivity apps @ work , entertainment apps , games @ home.
