For AT&T Lumia owners that want to move to T-Mobile

well, decided paying $130 month service at&t (and overage charges!) , tired of constant fees being added. time move t-mobile thought, after seeing latest in carrier event includes no dta charge if use pandora , few other music streaming services , of course no overage fees, ever! have unlimited $80 month.
here problem. wife , have windows phones (lumia 1020 & 1520). wife refuses use other phone (she used diehard iphone user!) anyway, t-mobile doesn't sell either phone , 1520 at&t exclusive model. but... got work without issue. if want move t-mobile , have lumia, here steps. warning: may require have been on current at&t plan @ ll east 6 months. know was.
1. go t-mobile phone other lumia (but uses same type of sim, whether micro or nano) , have them set plan , port current number on at&t. cancel contract at&t allowing request unlock code lumia. see warning above regarding having @ least 6 months on current contract.
2. go here , request unlock code at&t. note: lumia paid in full, wife's not. both got unlock codes 24 hours of request.

3. once receive email unlock code at&t, insert t-mo sim lumia , turn device on. sim won't recognized , you'll requested input 20 digit unlock code. once done wait 10 minutes , lumia on t-mobile. if 1020 or 520 owner, done. if at&t 1520 (rm-940) owner, read on:

foreign nanosim (i used orange sim uk)

step-by-step getting att 1520 working on t-mobile:
part : use access point , foreign sim configure tethering settings
insert foreign sim card phone , boot up.
goto settings->access point, launch app, , verify applies foreign settings (it should read 'active' underneath mobile operator settings being used)
reboot phone ensure settings 'stick'
shut down phone.
remove sim card.
part ii: uninstall access point keep tethering settings. (if don't , boot t-mobile sim, access point may apply different set of tethering settings.)
boot phone
go settings->time & date
turn off automatic date, set year 2113 (or ridiculous. may requests update gmail , outlook... ignore these)
go settings->access point. when launch app, request uninstall because has expired. uninstall it.
restore time & date settings, shut down phone.
part iii: boot t-mobile sim , configure apn/mms settings
insert t-mobile sim card, boot phone
goto settings->cellular+sim
configure & save internet settings info:
under 'edit internet apn' input following info
apn: fast.tmobile.com
nothing else. every other block should left blank. hit save.
goto 'edit mms apn' , input info following data:
apn: fast.tmobile.com
mmsurl: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
port: 80
leave other blocks blank. hit save.
now, send picture mms apply new mms , data settings (this important).
go settings->internet sharing, turn on sharing.
@ point, should able device should able do. send picture messages. share internet.
have unlocked lumia working on t-mobiles network. don't have lte on t-mobile, because band missing on version of 1520. 4g speeds on t-mobile faster lte speeds on att! go figure.
very nice write lloyd! glad at&t gave unlock code wife's phone not paid for. make wait until paid , clears billing cycle.
