Disabling the function keys?

hello,
i'm trying disable standard function keys on mac keyboard can use them instead in avid software programme.
normally, on macbook, can go to

system preferences > keyboard > keyboard tab > check "use f1, f2, etc. keys standard function keys.

i'm not given option on imac. can "system preferences > keyboard > keyboard tab" there blank space instead of having option check function keys on , off.

there other keyboard setting need change or something?

it's older style mac keyboard chunky keys (doesn't have separate "fn" key), not slim ones if matters, , i'm running 10.9.4
