iTunes: Copying album to iPhone interrupts copy in progress

i'm not syncing: i'm using "manually manage music"

used able drag album onto phone, switch artist, drag second artist's album onto phone, , queue second artist's songs onto list of files copied. continue this, dragging various albums on , on until had large queue of songs complete copying.

now, if copy in progress , try add album, album copy in progress interrupted , see "grayed out" listing of songs on device (the songs not there).

what's going on ??
 

i spent time apple support, , went far doing screen share observe itunes in action. tried on side , confirmed way itunes works now.

if "manually manage" must let each transfer complete before initiating another.

suppose create giant playlist , sync that, prefer manually control everything. not big issue once you've filled new phone , need occasional transfer.
