L Chargers won't work but T Charger does?!?!

i have mid-2010 mb , on monday of week got service battery warning. @ same time l shaped charger stopped working, bought new 1 @ least maintain charge till battery fixed. however, new l shaped charger didn't work. figured battery issue ordered new battery ifixit , figured i'd need wait till battery replaced. while sister over, figured try using t-shaped charger mid-2009 mac book pro , voila! charged. changed battery, , while service battery light gone , i've got working battery, computer still not charge l-shaped mag safe. however, sisters t-shaped charger working fine. i'm not sure do, i'm considering ordering old t-shaped charger, since bought new charger i'm bit hesitant until i've exhausted options l chargers. advice or input welcomed can't keep sisters charger forever:(.
 

how know new l-shape charger bought , not doa? did try using new l charger on sister's laptop see if work on computer? maybe dead out of box!
