Process for moving AT&T SIM to unlocked T-Mobile iPhone 6

i have pre-ordered t-mobile iphone 6 arriving on friday (full price, direct apple). understand previous threads unlocked, wanted establish exact steps using phone on at&t, since first experience bringing own unlocked device carrier. steps below i’ve gathered other threads. can experience confirm?

  1. back old iphone (an iphone 5, in case) through itunes.
  2. remove at&t sim old iphone.
  3. remove t-mobile sim iphone 6.
  4. connect iphone 6 computer (with no sim), turn on iphone 6, , go itunes.
  5. from itunes, choose “restore iphone” , choose restore iphone 6 factory default (expect “congrats, phone unlocked” message upon completion).
  6. turn off iphone 6, put sim old iphone iphone 6.
  7. turn iphone 6 on , go itunes.
  8. from itunes, choose “restore iphone” , choose restore iphone 6 backup created old iphone in step 1.

seem right? if so, 2 additional questions:
  • does matter old iphone not yet unlocked? comes off contract on september 23, since have unlocked iphone 6, trust can still move old sim new, unlocked phone.
  • do need let at&t know imei new phone @ point? matter them sim going different iphone?

help! hope info useful others taking unlocked plunge well.

    [*]now should see "congratulations, iphone has been unlocked."
  8. from itunes, choose “restore iphone” , choose restore iphone 6 backup created old iphone in step 1.
