Becoming an ACMT

i'm thinking want become acmt, live in small-town working @ small computer store not apple certified, i'm treated mac expert , have had experience them/use them regularly
wondering if it's worth it? being small mom-and-pop shop won't pay for me do
ive heard mixed things acmt true lifelong ? or yearly renewal new takers? i've heard both things
