iPhone lifespan comparison

one happily 3-4years use iphone without being out dated - in terms of support latest software. 6 plus €.60 day. minus resale price.
how compare other devices? in terms of updates , resale value.

seem remember having samsung in same price range iphone, right out of box - things didn't work iphone ("it works") , within 2 years totally out of date , worth €10 parts
 

i not sure on math iphones have historically gotten 4 major os releases exceptions. 3gs started @ ios 3, , received 4, 5, , 6. 4 received ios 4-7.1. iphones great software support helps usability age.
