Possible to Restore from Backup of an Older Device?

i'm planning iphone 6/6 plus, eventually. when do, want avoid hassle of having re-download apps, reconfigure accounts, , re-tinker settings, etc. have iphone 4s has apps/settings prefer. if backup iphone 4s, can restore backup onto iphone 6, or cause issues?

not sure if has done after getting new version of idevice. in advance.
