Lost HDD space

last night going partition hdd (to try out yosemite). started disk utility , proceeded allocate space new partition , clicked start. after while, macbook had sudden shutdown (charger not connected). booted discover there no new partition, yet space allocated new partition still being used! have idea do? 34,68 gb 'lost'.
